On the flywheel side, the guide tube facilitates the movement of the thrust bearing in order to engage / disengage the clutch. On the gearbox side it provides a seal between the gearbox and driveshaft. These two functions are critical, so we recommend replacing the guide tube with any thrust bearing or clutch replacement.
