Usage
This dial gauge is indispensable for Porsche engine assembly, rebuild, and tuning, where precision measurement is critical. It is used to set and verify camshaft timing by measuring valve lift at specific crank angles, to confirm total valve lift and camshaft profiles, and to check crankshaft and camshaft end play to ensure correct thrust clearance and prevent excessive movement or binding. It also verifies flywheel end play, detects run-out or warpage in rotating assemblies, and identifies deviations in pulleys, crankshaft snouts, and other components that could cause vibration or premature wear. Beyond timing and rotation checks, the gauge is valuable for monitoring wear in cam lobes, followers, and other moving parts over time, as well as confirming the flatness of cylinder heads, housings, and jigs during precision builds. For maximum accuracy, it is best paired with our Dial Gauge Bracket (Ref. 2082), which secures the indicator directly to Porsche cylinder heads for exact valve lift and clearance measurements.
