Background
On modern Porsche models, the factory electronic exhaust valve strategy is calibrated primarily for emissions compliance, drive-by noise regulations, and refinement. Valve operation is dictated by engine load rather than driver intent, meaning that during idle, light throttle, and low-to-mid RPM driving, the exhaust remains largely closed—even in Sport or Sport Plus modes. The result is an exhaust system that only reaches full volume under heavy load or wide-open throttle.

This behavior becomes most apparent in the moments where sound actually matters: pulling up at a traffic light, cruising through town, blipping the throttle at a Cars & Coffee event, or arriving at a Porsche gathering. Instead of presence and character, the exhaust stays muted, often falling flat in a way that feels out of place for a car of this caliber. The CARGRAPHIC 3-Mode Exhaust Valve Control Unit addresses this limitation by placing exhaust valve control directly in the driver's hands while preserving factory operation when discretion is preferred.

Engineering & System Design
The CARGRAPHIC 3-Mode Exhaust Valve Control Unit is installed inline between the factory exhaust valve actuators and the original equipment (OE) control system, overlaying the factory logic without altering it. Using OE-style connectors and model-specific wiring, the system integrates seamlessly into the vehicle's electrical architecture while maintaining signal stability and long-term reliability under thermal and electrical load.

Three selectable operating modes allow the driver to actively tailor exhaust valve behavior to suit different driving conditions and environments. SPORT mode commands the exhaust valves to remain fully open for maximum acoustic presence, COMFORT mode keeps the valves fully closed for reduced sound levels, and AUTOMATIC mode fully restores factory ECU control. This expanded functionality provides greater flexibility than the standard two-mode configuration, while preserving full OE operation when desired.

A programmable start-up function allows the driver to define the default valve position at engine start, adding an additional layer of personalization and control.

The control unit operates using three selectable modes, activated via high-quality CARGRAPHIC remote controls:

By unlocking direct and unrestricted control over exhaust valve operation, the system allows the factory exhaust to be experienced without electronic limitation. While this reveals its true character, it also makes the acoustic ceiling of the original muffler immediately apparent. Based on our experience, this is often the point where enthusiasts recognize that achieving a deeper, more expressive exhaust note requires an upgraded muffler or a complete performance exhaust system.

Important Notice & User Responsibility
Permanent closing of the exhaust valves—especially during sustained high engine load, high RPM operation, or full power driving—can result in excessive exhaust backpressure and may cause serious engine or exhaust system damage. COMFORT mode is not intended for use under these conditions.

Installation is fully reversible and leaves no permanent trace on the vehicle. For reliable long-term operation, the control module must be mounted in a dry, heat-protected location and the wiring harness routed correctly. Due to the electrical nature of the system and the importance of proper placement, professional installation by a qualified specialist workshop is strongly recommended.
