The Porsche 992 turbocharged generation marks a major evolution in intake system design. Unlike previous 911 models, where air filter housings were mounted on top of the engine—often prone to heat soak—the 992 features a dual air box configuration positioned behind the left and right rear wheels. This redesign allows for cooler, denser intake air and sets the stage for improved performance, especially when paired with a high-performance air filter.

When comparing the factory paper filters in the 992 to BMC Sport Air Filters, the advantages are clear. While factory original equipment filters provide basic engine protection, they are relatively restrictive due to their thickness and dense construction—especially limiting on tuned turbocharged engines. Please note:BMC Sport Filters are direct replacements for the factory air filters (original part numbers 992 129 620 and 992 129 620 A). While there is some misinformation online suggesting that BMC filters can foul mass air flow (MAF) sensors, this is not something we've experienced since we began using them in 1984. During manufacturing, BMC applies a precisely measured amount of oil to each filter, ensuring proper performance and reliability. In our experience, issues with fouled MAF sensors typically result from over-oiling during user maintenance or cleaning—not from the filters themselves. In our opinion, the focus should be on the long-term benefits of improved engine cleanliness and extended service life, rather than undue concern over MAF contamination.
