1973 RS-Style Backdate Hood for 1974–1994 Models

Planning a lightweight backdate build? This long hood delivers the classic pre-1973 Porsche 911 appearance while retaining mounting geometry designed for later air-cooled models.

The exterior profile reproduces the distinctive long-hood design used on Porsche 911 models through 1973, while the internal mounting points and latch configuration are engineered to suit 1974–1989 cars. It can also be used for backdate conversions on 964 and 965 models produced from 1989–1994.

Manufactured in Europe by a OEM supplier from Porsche, this premium hood is constructed from high-strength Glass Reinforced Plastic, or GRP. It is supplied in a black gel-coat finish, ready for professional preparation and painting.

Unlike basic fiberglass panels, this hood features highly detailed molding, accurate cutouts, depressions, connection points and pre-installed mounting hardware modeled after the factory design. Its precise construction and near-factory fitment can significantly reduce preparation, fitting and installation time compared with lower-quality reproduction panels.

This is a premium, made-to-order body panel. Proper manufacturing and curing take time, and estimated lead times typically range from 30–45 days depending on production scheduling and destination.

Because each air-cooled Porsche was assembled with natural variations, final preparation may include:

Surface preparation before paint
Panel-gap adjustment
Test fitting
Hinge shimming
Minor finishing work

Professional installation is strongly recommended. Installation should be performed by a body shop experienced with fiberglass, GRP or carbon-fiber panels.
