Product description

Background
Ignition coils, also known as coil packs or coil-on-plug units, are critical for delivering the high-voltage spark required to ignite the air-fuel mixture in each cylinder. In modern Porsche engines, each cylinder has its own coil to provide precise timing and consistent spark energy, ensuring optimal combustion. Properly functioning ignition coils are essential not only for reliable starting and smooth idle but also for throttle response, fuel efficiency, and maximum power output.

For performance tuning and high-output applications, ignition coils become even more critical. Engines with upgraded camshafts, turbochargers, or modified fueling require stable, high-energy sparks to maintain efficient combustion under increased load and RPM. FVD Brombacher Porsche Software Tuning often involves ECU software adjustments that increase fuel injection rates, advance ignition timing, or alter boost pressure. These changes demand ignition coils capable of delivering consistent spark energy under higher voltage and frequency conditions. Weak or failing coils in a tuned engine can lead to misfires, incomplete combustion, reduced power, and higher emissions. High-quality, original equipment manufacturer (OEM)-spec ignition coils are therefore essential for maintaining both everyday drivability and peak performance in stock or modified Porsche engines.

Symptoms
In late-model Porsche engines (2016+), a failing ignition coil can trigger cylinder-specific misfire codes (e.g., P030x), cause rough idling, hesitation under acceleration, or stumbling under load. Vibration through the engine may be noticeable, particularly at cruising speeds, and the check engine light may illuminate. Coil failure can be intermittent under higher load or hot conditions, resetting after cooling. Drivers may also experience engine control malfunction warnings or temporary limp-mode behavior linked to misfiring events.

Usage
This ignition coil is an original equipment manufacturer (OEM) direct replacement for the original unit and installs directly onto the cylinder head and spark plug, delivering consistent, high-energy sparks to ensure optimal combustion. Properly functioning coils are critical for maintaining smooth engine operation, precise ignition timing, and maximum power output. Always inspect associated wiring and connectors during installation to ensure reliable performance. For optimal results, we recommend replacing the spark plug at the same time (see reference number 57630) to save on labor and avoid mismatched wear. For added protection and easier installation, we also suggest ordering 1–2 quantities of Dielectric Grease, reference number 84014.

Fitment & Quantity
Sold individually. One coil is required per cylinder; confirm the number of coils needed for your engine (4 Qty. for the 718, 6 Qty. for the 992, etc.). The coil includes one M6 x 46.5 hexagon socket head bolt for installation.
